Preventive Strategies For Healthy Aging-Who Lives the Longest and Why
Who lives the longest? Do your genes really doom you? Is your diet that important? Can you have happy, healthy later years, or do you really have to be sick?
Dan Buettner of Blue Zone, along with the National Geographic, found five areas of the world where people live the longest and healthiest. He studied what they do, what they eat, etc.
He found each area has at least one distinct diet that helps people stay healthier longer.
Is there such a pocket of such people in the U.S.?
Yes, in Loma Linda California. They are Seventh Day Adventists and they base their diet on Gen 1:29.
Here’s the passage.
Then God said,” I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” (NIV version)
Interesting…. the eating of meat had not been introduced yet. The plant based died was the original diet.

Troop Greeters Are Spotlighted for Veterans Day
Posted on November 9th, 2009 No commentsTroop greeters are being spotlighted in time for Veterans Day by such media outlets as PBS.
A documentary featuring their work and dedication for our military will be shown this week.
Troop greeters are mainly retired seniors who are at the airports waiting for returning troops. They shake our heroes’ hands and provide support and love for those returning from the wars. This is a very good work by seniors who are making a difference. They are filling in a need as these young men and women return to the U.S. and they are showing appreciation for a job well done.
Seeing this story on the Fox Channel reminded me of the story my uncle told about returning to the U.S. after having served in WWII.He had landed on Utah beach early in the morning on D-Day and lived to tell the tale, but no one was there to greet him when his plane reached Maine in 1945. It was the first time those men had been on American soil in over four years.
All my uncle wanted was a glass of cold fresh milk. He had been craving it all that time.
I think the little things mean a lot and the troop greeters are certainly doing a lot by being there for our military.
